OFFICER PROGRAMS
The Platoon Leaders Class (PLC) is the most common route to becoming an officer.  For freshman and sophmores, the program consists of two six-week training sessions between school years at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia.  For college juniors, it is one 10-week training session.  You are paid for your time in training and all your costs for travel, meals, textbooks, materials and clothing are furnished free of charge by the government.  During the school year, you will not be called to active duty, and you are not required to wear a uniform.  Upon college graduation, you'll be commissioned as a Marine Second Lieutenant and advance directly to The Basic School.

The Officer Candidate Course (OCC) is a demanding 10-week commissioning program for college seniors and graduates who are seeking to become Marine Officers.  The journey begins at OCS- the physical and mental proving ground for those who want to lead Marines.  Designed to screen and evaluate officer candidates to determine if they have the leadership potential to serve as an officer in the United States Marine Corps, OCS proves there are no shortcuts to becoming one.  During OCS, your instructors will put your leadership skills, academic abilities and physical fitness to the test.  Complete this grueling challenge and you will earn something most will never attain- a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.  This is the direct route for college grads to becoming a Commissioned Officer.

The Officer Candidates Course Reserve Program (OCCR)  exists to give college graduates the opportunity to earn their commission as a Second Lieutenant. You will attend the same 10 week OCS training as the OCC program, and then The Basic School (TBS). However after TBS you will be able to persue a civilian career while remaining in the geographic location of you choice. For one weekend a month and two weeks a year you will perform the duties of one of the 22 different fields offered by the Marine Corps. As a Reservist you will rate Service Members Life Insurance as well as the Montgomery GI Bill for graduate studies.
